Weight Loss Management
Weight Loss Programs
Modified Fasting Program
A Modified Fast is an intense weight loss program that provides a rapid loss for the significantly overweight patient. This program has been proven safe through studies worldwide, when administered under the direction of a physician. A medical questionnaire is completed at time of consult to determine that certain medical requirements are met before beginning the program. You will use five supplements daily (shakes, soups and bars) plus a small meal of lean meat and salad. These supplements are balanced to meet all nutritional needs. After four to eight days, hunger virtually resolves and most patients report a higher energy level. Weight loss is approximately three to five pounds/week. We follow a strict protocol and ask our patients to do the same. Patients often show a dramatic improvement in conditions associated with being overweight, i.e., hypertension, diabetes and high cholesterol. The program includes nutrition and exercise education as well as behavior modification. This continues through weight maintenance and long-term weight loss management programs. The initial visit includes a physical examination, lab tests and an EKG.
Flexible/Balanced Food Plans
Our balanced food plans are based on individual needs and teach a realistic approach to food and to body size rather than “dieting”. We see each person on a one-to-one basis so that we can help design a program around the individual's needs and lifestyle. We offer nutrition education as well as behavior modification. We also offer long-term weight loss management programs to help keep the weight off. Weight loss is approx. one to two pounds weekly. Initial visit includes a physical examination, lab tests and EKG.
Six-Month Program before Bariatric Surgery
The criterion of the insurers requires a doctor-monitored weigh loss program in the six months prior to surgery as well as evaluations by healthcare professionals. A medical evaluation is required by a licensed physician and a nutrition evaluation is required by a registered dietitian. The program acquaints the patient with nutritional needs as well as the physiologic and behavioral changes necessitated by the surgery. We provide post-surgery diets, supplement requirements and lifestyle change education, as well as post-surgery and long-term maintenance programs. These programs can aid the patient in continued success with weight loss and weight loss management.
